My Students
Do you remember what it was like to experience the latest technological advances that made life easier? With modern technology, printed books are almost obsolete, however my students don't know this. They haven't experienced the pleasure of reading a novel in any form other than bound novels.
My students are low income, free and reduced price lunch and reside in one of our city's largest public housing communities.
Despite their living conditions, they are they most energetic and enthusiastic group of sixth graders. They attend a public school where I meet them each day with open arms because they inspire me to be my best and challenge me to raise the bar by keeping abreast of what motivates them to learn and grow.
My Project
My students love to read. They know that books can take them on voyages. They love books and they love going to the school library to check out books. I would love to give them the experience of reading novels on a Kindle. What a wonderful experience that would be especially for those who are still a bit reluctant to read. It is the latest technology, yet they don't know what it's like to use one. What a travesty! With four Kindles, I could have small group reading assignments as well as independent reading during reading time. Students would be assigned blocks of time to use the Kindle for their reading. They will wait in anticipation for their turn. A sneaky way to foster reading, right? Whatever it takes! I know this will be a groundbreaking experience not only for my classes but also for my school. Reading comprehension is a challenge and Kindles in the classroom would give me the edge I need to encourage more reading.
I am really excited about the opportunity for my students to experience reading with Kindles.
Kindles in the classroom will promote more reading, a desire to read and afford my students the opportunity to experience the role technology plays in yet another facet of daily living. The continued exposure to reading coupled with the use of technology will definitely enhance their learning.
