I need professional development texts including "The Art of Comprehension" and "The Ramped-Up Read Aloud" as well as a library of texts that are mentioned within these titles to use for further growth.
We are an International Baccalaureate elementary school whose mission is to cultivate in each student the desire to grow in wisdom, to nurture an open and curious mind and to serve others with a generous spirit. We have a truly international culture and diverse student population.
Our goal is to create an advanced elementary program where our students become critical and compassionate thinkers.

My Project
I am requesting a set of professional texts that will deepen my understanding and practice of read-aloud and comprehension in the classroom. Within these texts, multiple exemplar texts are mentioned to use with lessons to increase comprehension. Many of these titles that I am requesting are also inclusive to meet the needs of my globally-minded, school community.
With the skills I get from this self-guided PD, I plan to implement a school-wide, professional development series on the importance of read-aloud and how to effectively use them at all levels- providing examples through read-aloud books throughout the room.
This PD will be engaging and hands-on allowing teachers to get into the texts and practice building read aloud with thought-provoking questions on new books that they actually want to read.
At the end of the PD, each teacher will leave with a purposely planned read aloud for their students that meets the need of their theme and curriculum.
