Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are from Indio California, where poverty is a major problem. They face great diversity on a daily basis and 100% of the students receive free and reduced-price lunches. The classes I advise are made up of special education students from the 10th - 12th grades. They are promoting their own success because they are determined, motivated, creative, confident, experienced, and curious. They are developing real-world skills and digging deep and showing their grit. Our student entrepreneurs are excited to be part of a group that has the opportunity to learn unique skills to support their transition into the workplace and beyond. Students are working towards creating an on-campus business. Through this journey, they will create all aspects of the business from the initial business plan, marketing, and more. They will experience life as a business owner. Our class will prepare our students to have not only workplace skills but also teach them how to be innovative young entrepreneurs.
My Project
Rajah Works is a club that teaches students workplace skills. Students in this program are Special Needs Students that will require additional support transitioning from high school into the workforce. This is accomplished through hands-on real-world experiences. Students will learn how to become young entrepreneurs through Rajah Works which is a printing business. They will be part of an innovative team that will be completing project-based assignments that gives them an in-depth real-world view of what it is to use their creativity, business, and computer skills to run their own business.
The sublimation printer will allow students to print quality transfers for their printing business.
They will assemble and create all of the projects that a “real” business would need to open its doors and they will produce all of the goods for the program. Students experience life as a business owner. This program will be student-led and operated.
