Help me give my students the writing tools they need to become 21st century writers who are ready to face exciting futures.

I am a first grade teacher in a Pre-K through 8th grade school. All of my students come from low income families. Many of these children face poverty, violence, and obscenities on a daily basis. In spite of all of the negative forces they must face daily, they are all very inquisitive and eager to learn students. My students desire the stability and routine of a healthy school environment. We are engaged in our learning and are striving to become life-long learners.
My students are thinkers, dreamers, and doers.
They love to put on their “thinking caps” and stretch their brains to become the very best learners they can be. It is my desire to give them the tools they need to achieve their goals and realize their dreams
Not only my students but our entire student body struggles in the area of creative writing. Living in a low income community without many resources greatly impacts my ability as a teacher to provide my students with the tools they need to be successful in the classroom. It is my desire to provide my students with resources and tools that will motivate and engage them in learning to write while cultivating a love of writing as a means to express themselves. We need Picture-Story Composition Books, blank books, a Ready to Write! Prompt Box and Correct the Sentence! Daily Journals. Providing my students with writing prompts and writing journals will allow them to practice their writing skills, allowing them to be creative and competitive with students in neighboring districts and throughout our state.
