Celebrate Black Teachers and Students
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students come from all walks of life. Many come from private schools or from middle schools that have worked hard to get them where they are, but may have been unable to push them to the next level.
Many of my students come from low-income areas and they do not have access to resources or reading options outside of what is "assigned" reading. I do not want the lack of income to hold back the educational possibilities for all of my students.
My Project
These books will give my students the options of reading young adult novels. They go beyond the traditional literature of the English classroom, and bring about a deeper love of the written word. The option to read an entire series like the Red Queen series or to find a favorite author like Laurie Halse Anderson could await my students.
This is the chance for young people to expand their learning in ways that grab their interest and attention and give them an opportunity to share with their classmates.
My students will be participating in a Literacy Fair where they will feature their favorite novel to their peers and invited guests.
