My Montessori classroom is made of 1st, 2nd, and 3rd graders. All the students are eager to learn something new each day!
My students are a wonderful group of learners and explorers.
Not only do we learn math, language arts, history, geography, and science, we also love learning how to be citizens of the world. To do this we have special projects in our classroom all the time!
We research Ancient Civilizations every year to learn how people met their fundamental needs and compare their lives to our own. This year we are studying the Inca, the Mayans, and the Aztecs. We love learning about nature and are curious about our world. We do mindfulness on a regular basis and have an art and reflection project called Explorer's Notebook. We are very busy and like it that way!
My Project
We have a relationship with Pampered Produce, a farm in Milwaukee and would like to raise chicken eggs this spring. We will learn about the life cycle of chickens by reading several books and doing hands-on activities in the classroom.
We will not only learn about the life cycle of birds we will get to see it first hand by using an egg candler.
This experience will be like none other!
We will care for and watch the eggs hatch and then we will raise the chicks in the classroom for a week. This will allow us to become caretakers of 7 chicks. This is why we need an egg candler, several great books, and a hut for the chicks to live in after they hatch!
