Think about how great it would have been to have a class pet in school, especially chickens!
I teach at an urban school in Texas.
Many of my students are low income and do not leave the city much. I teach an agriculture class and love showing the students things they have never seen before. This school year we are hatching and raising chickens at the school. This will allow me to teach about animals in a very hands on way.
My Project
The items I have requested will all go to help raise the chickens we are hatching in my advanced animal science class as well as my livestock production class. I have request two feeders and two waterers. This will allow the students to take care of the chickens throughout the process. I have also requested a brooder. The brooder is used right after the chickens hatch to keep the baby chicks warm. Just like in humans, the babies will need to be kept warm until they are old enough to withstand the cold. The brooder will keep the chicks in an environment that is about 85-90 degrees. Once the chickens feathers come in, they will be moved to the chicken coop. The last thing on my list is a predator light. This will hopefully keep any predators, such as raccoon and wild dogs, away from the coop so the chickens will stay safe.
I truly hope you will agree to donate to my project.
I believe this project will teach. My students things they can not learn from a textbook. Hands on lessons are the best tools for learning. My students are really looking forward to seeing the chickens hatch and I hope with your help we can raise them for a very long time.
