My Students

Do you remember going to your elementary school library and checking out all your favorite titles, authors and series growing up? I remember not being able to put a book down and always wanting the next book in the series. My students are eager to do the same but we do not have chapter books!

My school is located in California.

My students all live in high-poverty. We are an inclusive-practices school, where all of our students with disabilities are included in the general education classrooms. Our school is focused on providing a safe, respectful environment for ALL students to learn. We place an emphasis on social, emotional learning in order to provide our students with the skills they need to be successful at school and in life.

My Project

By having these class sets and different options of chapter books, students will be able to have a choice in what they read. The kids will be able to choose books that they are interested in and continue in certain series or authors that they enjoy. They will be able to have their own classroom library where they feel comfortable choosing a variety of books and sharing in the joy of reading. Students will also be able to stay focused during our Daily Five Literature program because they will be reading independent with books that interest them.

I am so thrilled that I have half of my class coming in at higher levels of reading.

They are performing at such high levels that I need books that will challenge them with their reading and continue to help support their love of reading! By having these books, we can put together an organized classroom library for students to have choice in choosing books they love. My kids do not have the money to buy set of books, favorite authors, or purchase book orders. This will be their place to read!
