Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Schenck Kindergarten students live in a low socio-economic community. All of our students receive free lunch. All of our students receive free breakfast. We are with the children all day and some stay for extended care so their parents can continue to work after the school day has ended. Many of our students also come in for supper at the end of the day. We are so fortunate to be winning the battle of childhood hunger. Removing those obstacles helps us all in the long run.

The children are eager to learn their letters, sounds and how to read.

Many of the students have been in a school setting since they were 3 years of age. However, I still have some that have just come from their house and momma's apron strings.

Our school has limited resources and we are exploring different ways to bring in different experiences for the students.

My Project

The requested supplies will be used to create a colorful and fun experience when the students are writing. I want to elicit their different sense when it comes to writing. The students will be using these materials for journal writing, working with words and a variety of other centers.

I hope the different mediums that I order will help each of them in a different way and help create memorable moments during the short time I have them here in Kindergarten.

Not only will they be using the colors to write but also to color and develop their fine motor skills that sometimes get lost in development because of the reading push.
