Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
I teach a special education class for students with exceptional needs. Our students learn using an alternate curriculum. Most of our students are nonverbal, but they are able to communicate using sign language, gestures, and alternative communication devices. I have nine curious students who do not let their disabilities limit them from learning and accessing the world around them. They are eager to learn and share what they know with everyone they meet. They are friendly and very inquisitive. Our students come to school with a positive attitude and enjoy learning and helping one another.
Scaffolding our students' learning is essential to their academic success - now and in the future.
We will use pony and perler beads to create hands-on learning STEAM activities. For example, we can use the beads to engineer a rainbow as we learn about light. With the pony and perler beads, students can boost their engineering skills and learn pattern skills, design skills, and fine motor skills. We will be able to plan, design, and create models with beads using the Engineering Design Process.
More than half of students from low‑income households
Data about students' economic need comes from the National Center for Education Statistics, via our partners at MDR Education. Learn more
