My students need audio books to enhance the novel collections in our classroom. Providing the audio resources will be extremely valuable (and engaging) for my readers who struggle with fluency, comprehension, and/or attention.

My Students

My sixth-grade scholars deserve every possible support and learning activity that will guide them to success both inside and outside of school. We all work together in our small, rural elementary school so that our students may be successful achieving their academic, physical, social, and emotional goals. Our school has a near 40% free or reduced-price lunch population, but our progress and goals attainment demonstrate that hard work and a school-wide positive learning environment can overcome obstacles such as poverty.

This project will provide my students with a great treasure- books to which they can listen, books that they can read, and books they can use to engage in group discussions with their classmates.

My Project

My sixth grade scholars have many opportunities to select books of their choice, to engage in small group discussions, and to use flexible seating while reading. These opportunities still do not meet the reading needs of many of my students. For them, they need to hear the reading as they visually read the text. This increases their attention and comprehension of the text. There is a variety of CDs to match the variety of texts and the variety of student interests in the classroom. Some, such as Roll of Thunder and The Watsons Go to Birmingham, are historical fiction. Others, such as Chomp and Crenshaw, are fiction. The Goosebumps horror text is also appealing to many readers. Some books (Chomp and Goosebumps) are also needed to accompany the CDs.

The audio books will provide the multimodal literacy activity that is critical for my students' reading success.

The reading success will motivate my students to read more, which will generates more literacy success. This pattern is essential for life-long readers.
