My Students

I teach 7th grade math. All of my students have a learning disability and/or emotional/behavioral issue. My school is a Title 1 school and all of the students receive free breakfast and free lunch. My students learn better when the concept is directly related to their life experiences in the here-and-now. I try to make my math lessons relative and fun.

and of course rates and proportions. I envision the Sphero Ollie or the Sphero Darkside Ollie being a fun and valuable tool to help me teach not only rates, ratios, and proportions but to also be a great way to teach percents and percent change (increase/decrease).

My Project

My students will use the Sphero Darkside Ollie as individuals, partners, and teams. They will use the Travelwey stopwatch to time different races between the Ollies. They will be able to use that information in the distance formula to create rates. That information will help them create ratios as they compare the times.

-will also be used as another way to teach/learn about percents and percent increase/decrease. My students love to learn using actual materials and being hands-on. Ollies will give the students the opportunity to work together to accomplish a task, or to work as an individual.
