My fifth-grade students are excited to learn through the exploration of reading. They are at the developmental age where they absorb any and all learning opportunities and have a true desire to learn. I have a total of fifty students and I instruct English and Language Arts. The students greatly enjoy reading a variety of novels from all different genres. It is a true gift to watch students grow from the power of reading. It is a proven fact that no single literacy activity has more positive effects on students' comprehension, vocabulary knowledge, spelling, writing ability, and overall academic achievement than free voluntary reading!
My Project
Help me give my students a variety of reading materials to help their love of reading grow! It is my dream to provide multiple reading resources to my students and encourage my students to explore different genres. Students are recommended to engage in two hours of silent sustained reading per week. This will not willingly take place unless the students are provided the opportunity to engage in reading opportunities that they are passionate about.
Research has confirmed that independent reading has the most positive effect on students' comprehension, vocabulary knowledge, spelling, writing ability, and overall academic achievement.
