This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students come into first grade knowing the basics of reading and leave independent and eager readers! This collection of materials will support my growing readers from the beginning to the end of the year.

My classroom is full of eager 1st graders, who are growing readers!

They love to read the world around them and work hard to improve their reading skills everyday. Our school is in an urban environment, with a tremendous school and neighborhood community. Our staff, administrators, parents, and community members work together to provide the best education possible to our hard working and dedicated students.

My Project

Our classroom library is our most utilized and beloved space in my classroom. With students having a wide range of reading abilities, it's important to have books spanning these levels so all kids can find a book that is just right for them. This collection of fiction and non-fiction readers will allow all of my students to find an engaging book no matter their level. The Leap Frog Tag readers will also be a huge asset in engaging my struggling readers in the world of books. These readers allow students to learn and read new books they may not be able to read on their own. Each book teaches students comprehension and reading skills in a fun and interesting way. The sight word centers will give students a chance to work and practice reading the words that are found most often in the books that they read. Mastering these words unlocks a world of books to students!

Literacy is the cornerstone of the work we do in first grade.

Teaching students how to read and how to learn from the things we read is the most important aspect of the work I do with my students. Opening students to the world of reading opens them up to so many more possibilities in the rest of the subject areas. These resources will give my students the tools they need to strengthen their reading skills through a variety of different resources.
