My students need vocabulary building games, fluency practice cards, talk about text comprehension cards, language cards, and graphic organizers for every day use.
Our school is a K-5 building and has around 500 students. In my classroom I have 27 students, 15 girls and 12 boys. I have a mixture of socioeconomic statuses, IEPs, ENL, High Ability, etc. My students are very much visual learners. They absolutely love stations and working together as a team to solve a common problem. Things such as games, task cards, or activity buckets help the students learn and practice so much. They have fun and do not even realize they are learning!
My Project
I will be using the majority of these things (vocabulary games, comprehension activities) at stations. I will also be using some in small groups for the students. The fluency cards will be used daily with partners. Fluency is something that is focused on a ton.
In fifth grade, it is harder to find fun, exciting activities that the students will like to help them learn.
By having the resources I have chosen, such as, vocabulary building games, fluency cards, and comprehension cards, students are able to do these every day skills with much more fun activities. When things are more fun, students are more apt to learn things and remember them as time goes on.
