Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Books have the power to transform how young people see themselves and the world around them. This project is focused on adding to a classroom library that reflects the diversity of our students and centers stories by authors of color. By uplifting these voices, we are not only promoting racial equity, but also helping our students feel seen, valued, and empowered.

These books go beyond representation, they challenge stereotypes, inspire critical conversations, and foster empathy.

Titles like The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas, Punching the Air by Ibi Zoboi and Yusef Salaam, and Clap When You Land by Elizabeth Acevedo give students mirrors into their own experiences and windows into the lives of others.

Many of my students have never had access to books where the main characters look like them, speak like them, or share similar struggles and dreams. This project aims to change that. With your support, we can cultivate a space where all students feel included and equipped to discuss social justice, identity, and equity through literature that speaks to them directly.
