This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
More now than ever, students need first hand accounts of the devastation and destruction that results from prejudice, racial injustice, and the consequences of unchecked hate and discrimination. The literature we read this year encourages students to reflect on human dignity, rights, and the need to combat all injustice. Students read Dear Martin, Dear Justyce, The Hate You Give, and Night. We are ending our academic year with an art exhibit featuring memorable scenes from these books accompanied by quotes from the text.
This art exhibit encourages students to reflect on the literature they have read and study racial injustice and systemic racism.
We are seeking art supplies and a sweet treat to give guests during our exhibit. Our goal is to have guests reflect on their own prejudice and to understand that racial justice is the systematic fair treatment of people of all races, resulting in equitable opportunities and outcomes for all.
