My students are wonderful girls and boys who are respectful and work hard to learn. They are well-behaved and have bright futures. I teach in a Headstart-12th-grade school. Their parents are hard-working people who struggle to make ends meet. Because of the low economic area and poor families, I ask for very little on the school supply list. I catch myself spending a lot of my own personal money on classroom needs, but I know that it benefits my students and that one day, they will make a difference in this world.
My 5th graders are hard-working students. I try every day to inspire and motivate them to READ. These resources will provide the opportunity to REWARD the students for READING. The more they read the more they develop the LOVE for READING. But first, I must get them to want to read. We also teach children of our military. We have a military base nearby so these resources will help those children too. We have a great school library where they are allowed to check out 2 books at a time. I use READING BUDDIES so that they have partners to read with. I give them reading challenges which encourage the reading buddies to read 20 books in a month. We also have a reading program that they can take a test on the books they read so that I can see their comprehension level on the books they read. By donating to this project I will use the candy treats, I LOVE To READ bracelets, pens, stress balls, necklaces, trophies, mechanical pencils, puzzle brain games, and plush animals as rewards for their reading. After the students read books, they earn one of the above rewards. At the end of 5th grade in May, I would like to be able to reward the TOP 2 readers that have read the most books with a Galileo learning tablet. The other learning tablet will be used in our reading center to do research for reading. This will really be the ultimate REWARD for their hard work in READING. By the time they leave me, I expect that most of my students will be life-long readers and learners. Without your help, I cannot afford to reward them. Thank you for your dedication in helping teachers help students.
