My Project
I'm excited to teach Spanish 1 for the very first time next year! My students are going to be challenged to work hard and progress quickly in their acquisition of the language. (It is my goal to structure the class so that highly-motivated students can learn two years' worth of Spanish in this class, so they may progress to Spanish 3 and AP Spanish more quickly.) My students will have a "passport book" in which they stamp off various Spanish skills as we learn them together. One skill we will be learning in Unit 2 is vocabulary related to personal descriptors (such as "man, woman, has glasses, blonde, has a hat," and so forth).
These "Guess Who" games will help my students to learn and practice our Unit 2 descriptive vocab--but they'll have so much fun, they'll forget they're learning at the same time!
I plan to pair up students with partners and have them take turns guessing and/or describing their person, with the opposing team having to mirror back the words they say for additional language practice. (E.g. "¿Tiene tu persona una corbata roja?" "No, nuestra persona no tiene una corbata roja.")
We will use these games on more than one occasion. Students will enjoy this activity so much that I'm confident they'll be begging to do it again and again. This will be a memorable activity that leads to greater enthusiasm for learning Spanish, and greater success with our target vocabulary.
