Help me give my students quilting materials to teach them one of the oldest life-skills, how to sew/quilt!

My Project

Through hand sewing, students develop patience, focus, fine motor coordination, and perseverance. When they learn to operate a sewing machine, they gain confidence using real tools and equipment — reading measurements, troubleshooting problems, rethreading the machine 10 times, and practicing safe operation. Quilting teaches planning, geometry, problem-solving, sequencing, and attention to detail.

Most importantly, these are practical life skills students can take with them forever.

Sewing is a skill they can use to repair clothing, create meaningful handmade gifts, design home décor, or even start a small business. In a world of fast fashion and disposable goods, they are learning sustainability, craftsmanship, and self-reliance.

Unfortunately, our school is unable to purchase quilting fabric, thread, rotary cutters, and other sewing supplies through our approved bid vendors. These materials are considered specialty items and are not available on the district purchasing lists. Without community support, our students simply do not have access to the tools required to learn these valuable skills.

Your donation directly puts real materials into students’ hands. It allows them to move beyond paper projects and experience authentic textile arts. Instead of watching demonstrations, they will be stitching, quilting, designing, and creating.

Because of you, students will leave this class not only with a finished project, but with confidence, independence, and a skill set they can carry into adulthood.
