Quilt of the Community

Help me give my students sewing machines and plenty of fabric and sewing accessories.

My Project

Sewing in an important skill for students to learn, it develops fine motor skills and they learn a skill that they will use in everyday life, not just in making art. This project wishlist includes lots of thread, and different fabrics we will use to make our quilt squares. The sewing machine will help us to put all of our squares together into a community art class project.

Quilting is a lost art that has been used as an excellent story telling tool for communities, it is an art form that is as useful as it is beautiful.

In this project we will look at modern quilting artists such as Faith Ringgold and her narrative quilts. Each student will design and sew together a portion of the quilt, then each patch we be put together to create a quilt of our community.
