This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My classroom and instructional methods are play based. I feel the four-year-olds have a very small window of opportunity to learn through play. While they are in K4, they are learning how to manage all of the differences between home and school. They are learning to interact with a large group of other children who are not family members; while also learning how to share an adult with 25 other people. Then when you add on the pre-academic skills to prepare them for their kindergarten year, that is a lot! In order to accomplish this, I give my students as many hands-on, play based learning opportunities as possible.

My students have diverse needs that are met through a variety of learning environments and tactile experiences.

I am asking for a tunnel so we can burrow like the worms and moles in the garden. I am asking for different types of math and ABC manipulatives to help create interesting centers for the children, that also give a tactile experience, while they are learning foundational academic skills. The request for playdough serves as another type of tactile experience, while it is also strengthening the children's hand muscles. Many of the children are use to using tablets and phones that do not require a lot of hand strength; pencils and crayons need more strength to leave a mark. With the materials requested in this project I would also like to give my students different types of art materials to use in making their creations of artistic expression. Lastly, I would like to freshen up some of our bulletin board and name plate supplies.
