My Students

I teach 18 kindergarten age students who love school! Most of my students come from low to middle-income homes, and with cuts to funding, there is not money in our budgets for anything outside of basic supplies. I strive to give them the loving supportive environment that they deserve while they are in my care so they can have the best chance at growing, learning, loving, and just being a kid with no worries!

Kindergarten is such an important developmental period in children's lives, and developmentally appropriate practices of movement, play, and choice are often being swept under the rug with the increasing academic demands being placed on our students.

However, research actually supports that using these practices increases student learning, growth, and achievement! Therefore, it is important to me to give my ALL to my kinders' growing minds, no matter where they come from or how different they are; a place where they have the best chance at flourishing and developing into great learners and people!

They are the inspiration behind this project because they specifically asked for more!

My Project

Every day we wipe down our tables. Sometimes they are visibly dirty from the crafts and activities of the day. Other times we know that there are hidden germs waiting there.

It is said, "Please excuse the mess, our children are making memories."

We don't wipe down our tables because our room has to be in perfect condition. Instead we wipe them down because I want to make sure my students stay healthy each day. Healthy students come to school and learn. I need my students healthy and excited each day. Plus, they love to help clean the room.

These Clorox wipes are on our school wish list, but with the other needed items, these are a low priority. I know that most classrooms received a few containers, but I also know that we will run out within a few months. This project will supply our classroom with wipes for hopefully the entire school year.

I am also asking for gum, mints and fruits snacks as small snacks to give the children while they work. They are able to stay more engaged and concentrate on their work easier.
