I've never before had a class with such a strong sense of community! My students are completely willing and eager to help each other in any capacity. These kids seem to instinctively know when a classmate is in need, even when that need is unspoken.

My classroom is made up of very diverse learners, but everyone works hard to meet their academic goals. These kids are always eager to see how much they have accomplished, and they refuse to settle for less than their best.
My Project
The WhisperPhone products will be used to enhance the reading experience for my students, and to increase engagement. Currently, my students practice using a variety of reading structures, but the experience needs some improvement for all students to benefit. Specifically, there are issues with noise pollution during reading. In my classroom, you will find students reading in several different ways during the same reading block. Some students will be reading aloud with a partner, while others are reading independently. You will also see students reading in a group and receiving instructional support. WhisperPhones can alleviate the high noise level that comes from so many bodies all talking at once. The noise level is too distracting for some, and those kids are not getting as much from the reading experience as they should. WhisperPhones will increase student engagement in other ways as well. Many students reading in a group setting become distracted and check out while waiting for a turn to read aloud. With the WhisperPhone Select in place, all students will be able to read aloud for the duration of the group, and individual students can still be assessed and supported without disturbing others in the group.
A student's reading ability is a strong indicator of how successful he will be in other subjects, and that means helping students to become fluent readers must take top priority in my classroom.
I know that providing the right support structures can make a huge impact for my kids. My students need multiple and varied opportunities for reading practice, and they need the right tools to make those reading experiences more beneficial. I'm excited to see the reading growth that will happen with these tools in place!
