This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

This project would allow students to explore instruments they are curious about and have limited access to.  Music is a brand-new subject on our campus and is now part of our growing IB program.

Unfortunately, we currently don’t have a traditional music classroom and have to be thoughtful in how we use the limited space we have access to.  The electronic drum set would allow students to practice without the worry of disturbing other classes.   Additionally, some students are curious about the bass guitar and would be excited to practice on both the electric and acoustic bass guitars.

Much like the drums, the acoustic guitars would provide the opportunity for students to practice without amplification.

This past year we began exploring beginner-friendly instruments such as the recorder and the ukulele, but students are eager to expand to other instruments.  As part of the IB program, they are required to create music on instruments of their choice, and so I am working on providing students with the opportunity to discover the instruments they are most comfortable with. 

Funding has been tight on our campus for many different reasons, and should this project be realized, it would mean a lot for our students.  Any little bit can go a long way, and we are grateful for the community of supporters who help make it possible for our students to grow. Thank you!
