Quick Breads and Quick Learners

Help me give my students a hands on cooking experience with lab materials.

FULLY FUNDED! Ms. Hall's classroom raised $491

My Project

My Food and Nutrition One students learn about the technique and functions of quick breads in the Utah Core Curriculum (Strand 3, Standard 4). This project will help students identify the techniques and functions of quick breads and their ingredients.

Having lab materials allows students to explore and learn in a hands-on way.

This especially impacts the visual and hands-on learners. They become quick learners as they apply the skills and techniques we learned in our kitchen labs. Students are also more engaged in learning during our labs.

To create a quick bread lab, students will need cooking supplies. The muffin tins, muffin liners, paper goods, and cups will be used in a variety of ways. As we learn about the functions of quick bread ingredients, students will experiment with what happens to muffins if a certain ingredient is left out. This experiment will help deepen their knowledge of the function of each ingredient in the quick bread.

Next, students will master the proper techniques of making muffins. They will have a creative project of competing for the best muffin flavor. Students will become innovators as they come up with new flavors. The candy will be used as prizes for the winning students. This project will allow future students to use the cooking supplies such as muffin tins and cups. Having lab materials allows students a more hands-on experience. These materials will be appreciated by students for years to come.
