My Students

This is a wonderful group of third grade students in an inner-city school in Cleveland. Third grade is a very stressful year in Ohio. Students have a rigorous 100 minutes of Literacy to prepare for the Ohio State Test and the Third Grade Guarantee. Students must meet the cut score on the state literacy testing or they will not be promoted to the fourth grade.

These students are eager and ready to conquer comprehension.

These third graders deserve the opportunity to have the best resources at their fingertips.

The dynamics of the classrooms includes regular education students, students with disabilities, and students who are receiving support from an intervention specialist for reading and math.

My Project

Each student will be given a Daily Reading Comprehension Journal that will be used during daily guided literacy. These journals are correlated to the literature, informational text, and language standards. They enhance the teaching of many standards but especially target the standards including determining main idea and explaining the supporting details, drawing inferences from a text, determining meanings of words and phrases, and describing connections between events and concepts.

Students love these comprehension journals.

Each day students are eager to work on the given part of each weekly lesson. They are much more motivating then simple worksheets given out on white copy paper. These students work very hard and deserve nice journals to work in.
