Help me give my students the opportunity to read an engaging book. Hopefully, it sparks their interest in Greek Mythology and how those stories are relevant still today.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
I believe that introducing them to "Percy Jackson and the Olympians: Sea of Monsters" will not only spark their interest in new and exciting literature but also provide them with a unique opportunity to explore what happens after the events of the first book in the series, which they read in sixth grade.
In addition to offering a fresh perspective on literature, this choice holds particular significance considering the availability of the series on Disney+.
By aligning our classroom reading with a popular visual adaptation, students can seamlessly transition from the first book to the cinematic world while delving deeper into the narrative. This approach not only engages them but also encourages a multi-dimensional understanding of the storyline.
I am particularly excited about this wishlist because it aligns with the unique character of my students. They are open to trying new materials and embarking on literary journeys with me as I navigate my first year as a teacher. This collaborative learning experience not only fosters a sense of camaraderie but also instills a love for reading and exploration. I believe that through this initiative, my students will not only engage with the text but also develop a genuine interest in mythology, paving the way for further literary exploration.
