Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are smart, creative, hard working, and eager to learn! Most, but not all, are English learners in the classroom. The students live in a small town near fields where a lot of fruits and vegetables are grown. The school is huge, with more than 700 students. The students are tackling the new Common Core standards. They want to succeed in school! They are kind, safe, and responsible. The school, like most, is not able to pay for extra supplies.
My Project
My students are always hungry. Some come to school without eating breakfast. I allow students to bring healthy snacks to school to eat in the classroom before recess, but many do not. On days that students have to take state Common Core tests, they need energy to perform well.
Having a healthy snack before the state Common Core test will provide much needed energy for students to perform their very best!
My school used to have funds to provide snacks on days of state tests, but those days have passed. The yearly state tests can take around 5 or 6 days to complete.
Because fourth graders are growing all the time, they are always hungry. We have a field trip in the Spring to visit a mission. On days we have field trips, students are always hungry after a long bus ride. Having one of these snacks available will help tremendously!
With your donation, my goal is to have healthy snacks for students to consume on state testing days and save some also for the annual field trip to see and do a walking tour around a mission.
