My Project
These supplies will help foster science learning and collaboration throughout my classes. This year, I am teaching five 9th Grade Physical Science classes at the largest high school in Philadelphia. Our school's 3,600 students come from diverse linguistic and socioeconomic backgrounds -- over 50 home languages are spoken at NEHS and 100% of our student body qualifies for free lunch. I have chosen these supplies to equip each student with a notebook and to provide posters + markers for group assessments.
Supporting this project will ensure that my students will start the year with the necessary supplies to engage in our collaborative science classroom without financial burden.
Using techniques from Quality Teaching for English Learners, students will be routinely brainstorming ideas in their journals, sharing with peers, and actualizing their understanding of scientific phenomena into summative group posters. While much of schooling has been taken over by technology post-COVID, these materials will help students get off of their screens and working together to understand the science of our physical world.
