My Students

My students are a diverse group of children who love being part of a class team. They are tolerant, patient, and flexible. These children have never attended school, while Covid was not a consideration. They are working to thrive in a situation that is not always ideal. I appreciate how hard they work every day. They are good listeners who come ready to learn each morning.

My students are proactive about developing their decoding skills.

They already have a love of reading. They make great comprehension connections. I feel confident that they will make tremendous growth this year. I make an effort to read quality literature to them multiple times throughout the day. This helps ensure that they develop a vocabulary that is essential to their reading progress. I have made an effort to implement the LETRS program into my teaching. My students are making significant gains because of this. We work and play as a team each day.

My students are also working hard to become the best mathematicians. They have a good attitude and are excited to learn new concepts. They are hands-on learners. They benefit from concrete learning.

My Project

I have selected diverse picture books for reading aloud. These books will help with comprehension and vocabulary development. I also picked vocabulary picture cards. These will be essential for my special ed and ELL students. However, picture cards benefit all learners. The LETRS training emphasizes the need for vocabulary picture use. I also selected leveled readers during DYAD and reading and my Tier One instruction. Students need new reading material every day.

The math manipulatives selected would be so helpful for my kinesthetic learners.

Manipulatives must be used daily. Students need concrete learning. Research shows that a hands-on approach to learning benefits all learners. The materials I selected would improve my teaching. My students would make more growth with these materials.
