Help me give my students quality literature to enrich reading and writing instruction.

Hooray! This project is fully funded
This year I will teach around 20 first graders. Our school is in a rural part of Southwest Arkansas. A lot of our students come from farming families and help on their family farm quite often. They have a great sense of pride in their contributions to their family’s livelihood. 1st grade is a huge year for kids and they are so excited to learn. I love how eager they are and it’s my job to keep them excited about learning.
I will use these books to help my students see examples of quality literature to encourage their reading and writing. We will examine the author's style of writing and their choice of words to help the students to see examples of good writing and how they could incorporate those examples into their very own writing. We will use these stories to also assist in teaching reading comprehension skills. These are the things that good readers do subconsciously but 1st graders have to be taught what to do while they are reading. We don't want them to just word call, we want to understand what they are reading and make connections.
