Quality Literature for 6th Graders Enrichment

Help me give my students quality literature (both fantasy and historical fiction) to broaden their view of the World and enrich their literacy skills as we read and complete novel studies.

My Students

As always, my students this year are amazing, talented, and unique in their personalities and educational strengths and weaknesses. However, due to the Covid shutdown(s), many more students are exhibiting educational deficits in language arts. Students were not able to share quality literature with classmates for an extended length of time, and some lost interest in reading for fun. We have completed novel studies of two amazing authors, and this has further ignited their interest in reading quality literature.

My Project

Exposure to quality literature and completion of novel studies emphasizing language arts skills will spark further interest in reading outside of the classroom. We've completed 2 novel studies this year, and my students ask when and what our next classroom read will be.

If my students are enthusiastic and entertained with their reading material, learning basic skills will be more enjoyable and applicable to real-world situations.

In the past, while completing novel studies, we've reviewed and learned such skills as main idea, character analysis, figurative language, personification, vocabulary, sequencing, and imagery.
