Quality, Engaging, Project Based Learning for the Hybrid Classroom

My Students

My students are unique in that they have chosen to attend our excellent Academy. We're not a "neighborhood" school. Students commute from as far away as Salt Lake City to attend our school. I have a student in one of my classes from Cheyenne, WY.

Many of our students come from underprivileged households.

They lack the resources many young people take for granted. We have a large ESL (English as a Second Language) population. We also have many students in our SPED program. These students did not receive the proper attention they should have had at a larger school. At our academy, they get the support they're entitled to.

Students chose to attend our academy for many reasons. Some of those reasons include a possible future in our nation's military. Students may participate because they like the structured environment. Others attend because of the individualized attention they receive from the instructors and staff. No matter why they're here, the students all behave respectfully and have a high degree of integrity. I have been to other schools. Our students are second to none in this regard.

My Project

My students need Teachers Pay Teachers project-based resources that are effective for distance learning and the in-person classroom. Most of our project-based curriculum is geared towards in-person teaching. It isn't easy to adapt these lesson plans to accommodate the online student. It would be helpful to engage the online learner with project-based learning opportunities in addition to more traditional approaches.

Given the uncertainty we've faced the last two school years, it's necessary to have resources that will get the outcomes we strive for no matter what our classrooms look like, whether online or in person.
