This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

In the 21st century, technology skills are vital. But technology can be expensive, and public schools across the country are struggling to stay up-to-date when facing budget cuts.

My goal is to make sure all my students have an equal shot at a great education by using technology on a daily basis.

My class has children from culturally, economically, and educationally diverse backgrounds. I want to provide them with technology access they cannot get at home. This project will narrow the gap between students who have access to technology at home and those who don’t. This iPad will provide many hands-on learning experiences for them.

My Project

My goal is to keep my students engaged and motivated as much as possible during distant learning. As a teacher, I want to give each student the best lessons and I need to be comfortable doing so. Due to the continuing health risks posed by COVID, my students will be learning via distance teaching at the start of this academic year.

I am currently teaching and communicating with my students via Zoom (video conference) and I am requesting a standing desk converter, which can provide the flexibility of being able to stand and sit while I teach remotely.

My students would experience my directed lessons and lesson designs without the cost to my personal health, which I noticed was negatively affected when I would sit for hours teaching and lesson designing in basically one position.

Also, I am requesting monitor filters to assist me while I deliver video lessons from home. My increased screen time to deliver and design lessons were taking a toll on my eyesight causing fatigue and headaches. That's where the monitor filters would greatly help to reduce my exposure to blue light of computer screens. I use two monitors when I deliver directed lessons via Zoom. Also, I use my own laptop to log in to demonstrate as a student during live lessons and lesson design when I'm away from my desk.

Additionally, I hope to give my kids art lessons that will allow them to take a break from digital tools. I hope that the watercolor sets can turn their imaginative drawings into the most vibrant colorful creations.

Overall, stand-up desks and monitor filters for teachers are essential tools that will soon be the normal culture for every virtual classroom. Also, the paint sets will give a much-needed break from digital work.
