My students are from a large, rural community that is filled with cultural diversity. We are a "hard-to-fill" school in an area where 100% of students receive free lunch and bus due to the low socio-economic status of our community.
Regardless of their backgrounds, our students are resilient and very enthusiastic about learning.
The majority of my students are reading below grade level and would highly benefit from a variety of classroom resources to help increase their success in this newly established distance learning platform.
When I said goodbye to our students at the start of spring break I never thought that moment would be last time we saw them face-to-face. COVID-19 closed our schools and distance learning began. This presented a challenge, to not only the students, but to teachers as well. Many students in the community do not have access to supplies and teachers were trying their best to maintain quality education with the resources we had at home.
My Project
The HD Hue portable cameras will help me strive to replicate the quality of instruction that I was once provided in our classrooms from our homes. This camera would allow students to see materials I am using through their computer screens. Not only is this camera beneficial for live-virtual class meetings, but also for creating pre-recorded mini lessons for days we are unable to meet with students face-to-face. Pre-recorded lessons also provide the flexibility for students to receive/complete lessons at a time that is most convenient to their home situation.
During these uncertain times and the idea of what school will look like constantly changing, the cameras will help us to be successful in any situation I am faced with.
