This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach 28 amazing students that are eager to learn! They come from a challenging background but that doesn't stop them from doing their best. They come to school each and every day ready and excited to learn! Every one of my children are learning how to read, write, and speak English. Their progress in language acquisition has been astonishing! My kids are fighters! They want to be the best and succeed in life. It is my duty to help them reach their fullest potential.

My Project

After a decade of teaching, I made one decision that reshaped my thinking! I recently added some of our favorite books to our classroom library. Good, quality literature, and I noticed that my students are far more engaged in their reading than ever before.

The research shows that when students have great quality books in their hands, and a choice in what they read, they will make greater gains in their reading abilities!

I am seeing the payoff already!

My kids are so engrossed while reading books by our favorite authors! Now I know that I must add more of these great books to our library so that we have quality literature available for all the children in our class!

I am also requesting some cardstock so that we can make bookmarks and comprehension cards to use during our independent reading time.

These books will be used on a daily basis when my students are reading independently. Your donation will go a long way to helping my students have a choice, which is crucial for reading success. I thank you for considering making a donation to our project!
