Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My mission every year is to teach knowledge and skills, nurture confidence and character, and inspire the passion needed for students to achieve their goals, excel in the competitive world, and positively impact the community. My elementary students come from our diverse community, with over 75% qualifying for free/reduced lunch.
As 82% of my students are children of color, I feel responsible to provide equitable opportunities to them to ensure that they have access to all the resources they need to reach their full potentials.
I have witnessed the challenges of distance learning for my students during the COVID-19 pandemic, and I want to ensure that they have equal access to the resources they need at home in order to continue their growth during this year.
My Project
Many of my students do not have access to rich literature at home. And though they do have access to some digital resources, many of them do not have reliable internet right now. By providing these quality texts to students, you will be empowering them to continue growing in their love for reading, and more importantly, helping to open their eyes to the world. Reading these books together will allow us to have deep conversations about social justice, empathy, and bridging differences.
In addition, providing a gift card to teacherspayteachers will allow me to purchase engaging resources that can be used in the online learning setting.
It is very time-consuming to create these from scratch, so buying some of these resources created by other teachers will allow me to focus on prioritizing my students' needs when planning.
