Qualify for Virtual State/National Contests

My Students

The district includes small communities and several townships encompassing 540 square miles. The area is heavily agricultural with many farms and ranches. Approximately 85% of students receive free and reduced lunches. At one time, the area was a thriving agricultural hub with farms and ranches producing at top dollar. However, over the years, the population has dropped due to a lack of jobs and no real economic development.

The students need to learn that, as small and isolated as their little town may be, they are still important members of society and deserve the chance to develop employable skills.

Participating in Speech and Debate competitions will help students develop communication essential skills that are required by all employers.

Over the years many of my former students have told me, again and again, the skills they learned from participation in Forensics and Debate have made them more successful than others in their jobs.

My Project

The camera will be used to pre-record their individual events for asynchronous competition. It can also be used for synchronous tournaments as well. The camera will also be a wonderful tool for them to watch their own performances in order to see what needs to be improved to win.

Due to the COVID pandemic, students must have the equipment to present their individual events virtually.

Almost all tournaments at the Local, State, and National level will be virtual. Without this technical support, students will not have access to available competitions.
