My Project

In my classroom we use the workshop model for all of our core subjects, which includes whole group discussions. That means that student participation is paramount to student learning, but getting all students to participate is no small task. Students often struggle to be heard and hear each other as well. According to the qball website, "speech must be heard at 15db over ambient noise levels in the classroom." This means that when students speak softly the teacher must repeat what has been said, which takes away from the authenticity of a give-and-take conversation between students. Using a qball in the classroom will help address many of these challenges.

Qball is a soft, throwable, wireless microphone that allows everyone to hear and be heard in the classroom.

It also makes participating in class conversations fun. All students want to have a turn to catch and throw the ball. With the qball my students can take ownership of conversations because the ball functions like a talking stick indicating who the speaker is. In my experience using a qball in the past, its use fosters teamwork, inclusion, and comunication skills all while providing a multi-sensory experience for students. I know that the qball would be a game changer in my classroom!
