This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My first-grade classroom is a room full of fun and kind students. The students range in age from six to seven years old. My school is located in Nevada in a very high-need community. Our school is a STEAM academy elementary school where students love to invent, explore, and be creative. They have a real joy for learning. The students love to come to school every day eager to learn. I love to watch them grow and succeed in the classroom.

My Project

Community and collaboration is a huge focus in our classroom. Encouraging student voice and reflection throughout the day is essential. Students share their thinking and ideas throughout the day. However, it is often difficult to hear quiet students or to hear which student is speaking. The QBall is a new version of the talking stick. It uses a wireless microphone and a bluetooth speaker to amplify student's voice.

The QBall will encourage students to share their thinking, and to create a more collaborative environment.

Throughout circle time, math congress, writing partnerships and sharing, students will feel empowered and excited to share using the QBall.
