Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Consider a trip to a store. Most people can block out the noise, smells, and visual stimuli but for someone with sensory issues, this is a serious challenge. My students with autism spend much of the day in our classroom. Help my students learn and develop through structured play!
I have 6 students with moderate to severe autism.
We are in a public school, in a high poverty area in NYC, and my students are in a special day class just for autism. They're a great group of kids and inspire ME every day! They love to work on projects and games together, and we've recently noticed their interest in working on puzzles together. They are a vivacious bunch and are very eager to learn, but need help with focusing their energies into more productive means.
After lunch time, my students often have a hard time transitioning back into the classroom. The lunch room and playground can be very overwhelming and overstimulating. These supplies will assist my students in getting ready to learn during downtime and transition times, all the while learning important cognitive, fine motor, and social skills while game playing! My students spend a lot of time in the classroom, and we are lacking basic supplies such as puzzles, toys, and games.
My Project
I am requesting puzzles, toys, and games for my classroom. The best resources for children with autism are those that provide sensory input. All of the resources I requested will fulfill their sensory needs and assist them in developing essential social, cognitive and fine motor skills!
These resources will make a huge difference in the lives of my students with autism. Please provide them with basic resources we desperately need in my classroom which would make a huge difference in the daily classroom lives of my students!
Children with autism must be specifically taught how to engage in social and play activities.
They often require direct instruction to learn to play with others. Some individuals with autism present delays in fine-motor functioning which could also be addressed by the request materials. Puzzles and building can also assist in cognitive development! Please help my wonderful and deserving students!
