My Project
As a first time teacher of anatomy and physiology, I want to make sure my students have a top notch experience with dissection.
This introductory lab, involving a mass Pickle Death, is a great way to engage students in understanding dissection tools and practices.
Students are presented with a pickle crime scene where mass pickles have died of various causes, including heart attacks, tumors, murders, and the like. Students must dissect the pickles to find out the cause of death.
To equip my students, I need 15 new dissection kits (I have none) to share (2 per group) and two jars of whole pickle victims. Students will learn not only how to use the dissection kit tools including scalpels, pins, scissors, probes, and forceps but also anatomical plane orientation and terminology.
My students are traditionally underserved with authentic lab experiences, and this is a fabulous way to give them authentic hands-on learning.
