Many of the students in my classroom have experienced trauma in their lives, and school is their safe place. My classroom serves students with a range of disabilities, including intellectual disabilities, emotional disturbance, autism spectrum disorder, and specific learning disabilities. My students work hard and they love to explore, discover and learn.
The typical student in my class struggles with basic phonemic awareness and letter recognition.
About 90% of my students are African American or Latino. The opportunity and achievement gaps are apparent among our student population.
My Project
I am requesting a set of classroom blocks, some animal figurines, puzzles, and a puzzle rack. I know how important it is for kindergarten students to have a socialized play. With puzzles, students at this age can interact with one another and create their own way of learning that suits them best.
My students need these supplies to help with engagement and socialization.
My students will become more comfortable with one another when playing with these activities. If they are comfortable, they will be ready to learn and grow with me and their classmates. I know having these materials will help immensely.
