Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Hi! I teach first grade at a wonderful school in Charlotte, North Carolina. We have a high rate of students who are on free or reduced lunch. We also have a rapidly growing population of students who are English Language Learners.
Part of our reading instruction includes Independent Work Time (IWT) where students work independently on literacy activities while I pull reading groups. It is very difficult to have 6 year olds work independently without constantly asking me for help.
I have found some literacy puzzles that will help during our IWT time. The puzzles incorporate our literacy objectives such as end sounds, phonemes, sight words, vocabulary, compound words, synonyms, blends, plurals, and word families.
The puzzle pieces are brightly colored and sturdy. These puzzles are self checking and therefore, will free me up to teach my reading groups without interruption.
I appreciate your time in reading my proposal.
