Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I am a second year Kindergarten teacher in a New York City Public School in an urban area. Next year our Kindergarten curriculum will follow monthly themes. I would love to have a puzzle center in my room that would allow me to coordinate different puzzles with our monthly themes. At the present time I have no puzzles at all in my room. I feel that puzzles help improve children's hand-eye coordination as well as give them a close up look at different themes or topics. When we learn about dinosaurs or bugs, for example, I would pull out that particular puzzle to allow the children to learn and explore about that topic. I feel that puzzles are a child friendly way to introduce new themes in a very hands on way. I will have at least 20 children in my class who will work on these puzzles in small groups of 3 or 4 each day during Center Time. I would love floor puzzles because I feel that the larger sized pieces would be easier for small hands to manipulate. Puzzles are a great way for children to learn through play - so please help bring a puzzle center to my room!
