My students need art supplies for our first big identity project. Students work to create puzzle pieces that are an expression of themselves and creatively showcase who they are.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
This will be my first year teaching and I am super excited to get started! The students in my class come from a diverse set of backgrounds and experiences that will help us build a unique classroom community together this year.
Throughout the year, students in my class get the opportunity to explore their world, ask questions, and spend time engaged in inquiry, all while still meeting the common core state standards.
Though I have yet to meet this group of fantastic students, I will do everything in my power as their teacher to give them a space where they feel safe, supported, and valued so they can have the freedom to explore and experiment and grow.
My Project
As the school year starts, students will be entering into our classroom as individuals. However, over the course of the school year, we will work together to build a classroom community that will showcase each student's strengths.
To begin building our community, students will complete a project where they each decorate a puzzle piece that will reflect who they are as an individual.
Then as a group, our class will build the puzzle, using team work and collaboration, that we can then display in our classroom as a symbolic reminder of the community we are hoping to build. As one student put it: "We are each unique individuals, but when we come together we can create something spectacular."
The materials I am asking for will be used by students to help them creatively represent themselves on their puzzle pieces. By giving students markers, sharpies, colored pencils, patterned paper, and different colored/patterned duct tapes, they will have a way to take what they envision in their head and make it a reality. If we didn't have these materials, students would be limited to only using pencils to express who they are as individuals, which is doable but challenging (and a lot less fun!).
