Puzzle Palooza

My students need puzzles that provide interesting topics from a very basic skill level to more complex tasks.

My Students

My eager first grade students love hands on activities. We begin each day with fine motor tubs that help students develop strong fingers and hands for writing. Also, students have an opportunity to talk about their tub activity and participate in general conversation. They look forward to their time of hands on experiences each morning.

Our community is rural and our school is considered high poverty.

Many of my students do not have access to fine motor activities or beneficial hands on learning experiences outside of school. I love watching their excitement each day and week as I provide a variety of hands on activities for them.

My Project

I am requesting puzzles for my classroom because they are an excellent source of entertainment yet puzzles provide many essential skills needed for first grade students. Skills such as estimation, fine motor skills, and complex hand and eye coordination. Students converse or work quietly on puzzles depending on task difficulty.

I chose various levels of difficulty for those who have never worked a puzzle to those who have experience or learn quickly and strive for the more difficult tasks.

Many of the puzzles I chose depict our Oklahoma Academic Standards such as the continents, our nation, animals, food, and life cycles. My students will be so excited to see theses puzzles on their table first thing in the morning!
