Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
We are a first grade classroom in a Reading First School. This school is in a high need area with a large English Language Learner population whose needs are not being met completely. I am a second year teacher in this district and my classroom needs many supportive supplies and activities. This is a culturally and linguistically diverse student population who need to be stimulated and motivated by exciting hands on learning materials.
These first grade students have already advanced to a great degree and need that extra push to make their literacy complete. Each of them strives to achieve a new goal weekly, in comprehension and fluency, in math knowledge and other curricular areas. They are excited to learn and try new activities. We need new and exciting activities to keep their interest and motivate them to keep trying. If we make school exciting and catch their interest and desire to learn now, we will enable them to continue to become excellent readers and successful students.
We need reading, phonics and rhyming puzzles to reinforce reading skills that will promote fluency, phonemic awareness, phonics skills, vocabulary, and comprehension.
