My students come from many different cultural backgrounds, and most are living in low income households. They are eager learners with high spirits and love the arts. Many kids have several siblings, cousins and grandparents that reside in the same home.
I teach kindergarten, second, fourth and seventh graders.
Each grade level has its own needs and topics to be covered for students to progress and move on to the next grade level. Our district does not have a large budget at all. Usually we receive enough funding to purchase some crayons and markers and a small amount of paper. Our kids go through these supplies quickly, and we often rely on donations and local organizations to help us meet their needs.
With your help, it is my hope that their art classroom can be filled with new materials for them to explore, exciting supplies and images to look at, and wonderful experiences that will make an impression on them. This is their only chance to establish a love for art, as it is no longer mandatory after they leave elementary school. Help spread the love!
I have a Smartboard projector in my room but do not have a computer to connect to it. It is a shame to have such a nice piece of technology available and nothing to use it with. This laptop would allow me to connect integrate technology into my lessons once more. I like to show PowerPoints, video clips of artists at work and short biographies of artists to my students. It helps them to see people in action when we cannot afford to go see these things in person.
Having a computer in the classroom would also allow me to provide the students with an opportunity to do small group research projects and integrate our district adopted writing program into the art room.
